Summary -- Sixth Annual Picnic

The sixth annual fund raising picnic was held on August 24th at The Lodge at North Park. We were again blessed with absolutely beautiful weather that helped make for a great day and a tremendously successful event. Although pre-event ticket sales were a bit slow the “walk up “sales were awesome. There were 144 adults and 58 children who enjoyed the delicious food, wonderful music, bouncy house, kid’s games and most importantly the great company of family and friends. There was also time spent remembering Muriel and how she continues to inspire those of us who had the pleasure of knowing her. The picnic was a huge financial success. We have been able to almost double the money raised the past 2 years because of the support of our picnic sponsors who are recognized on the Donor page. It is equally important to recognize our loyal supporters who contribute by making cash donations, donating auction items, bidding on the auction and buying tickets. Collectively this generosity allowed us to raise over $30,000—incredible. All of this money goes directly to supporting out of pocket expenses to children and adults with cystic fibrosis. We were lucky enough to hear from Dr. Pilewski from the adult clinic as to how important this money can be to these needy patients. Thanks to everyone who made this all possible.

Summary -- Wildwood Jazz Night

On May 9 Wildwood Golf Club sponsored a Big Band Dinner to raise money for Muriel’s Breath of Life. Last year Wildwood started to sponsor 3 events each year, supported by the club and its members to raise money for non- profit organizations. This is the second year that MBOL was fortunate enough to be the recipient of this unbelievably generous event. The dinner was delicious and the service was great. The music was provided by my father’s band, Swingtet Eight with Johnny Angel. There was lots of dancing and good times were had by all. It was quite a memorable evening. Club members donated great silent auction items so those who attended bid generously. When the evening was over there was $5840 donated to Muriel’s Breath of Life. I thank Wildwood Golf Club for their vision and the members for their generosity.

Summary -- 2015 Muriel’s Breath of Life Golf Raffle

Through the generosity of many, Muriel’s Breath of Life was able to have another successful golf raffle raising almost $10,000 this spring. The first notes of gratitude are to the individuals who were kind enough to sponsor the golf courses---Bill Goodman (Pikewood National  Golf Club), Bill Strome (Fox Chapel Golf Club) and Rick Dandrea (Longue Vue Golf Club). Thank you so much. These donations allowed all of the proceeds to go directly to the patients. These great venues made selling the raffle tickets quite easy. We also thank all of you who bought tickets. This money translates to a great deal of help and support to the patients at the Cystic Fibrosis clinics. Unfortunately there can only be three winners and they were determined by the evening  Pick 3 lottery number. The winners are John Schneider (PIkewood National), John Wisneski (Fox Chapel) and Kevin Brode (Longue Vue). Let’s hope that they have sunshine, great golf and most importantly a memorable day.

Summary -- Muriel’s Breath of Life Fifth Annual Picnic

The 5th annual Muriel’s Breath of Life Picnic was a tremendous success. We were blessed with a beautiful day that enhanced all of the great picnic activities. The attendance was the best ever with 168 adults and 58 children. The music was again provided by Swingtet 8. There were lots of games and activities enjoyed by the kids.  The food, prepared and served by the Lagnese family was outstanding. Although the event is designed to be great fun spending time with family and friends the bottom line is that we are trying to raise money in Muriel’s memory to help those with Cystic fibrosis. This year the picnic was a great financial success.  This was the first year that we had the benefit of sponsors which allowed us to raise $12,000 before the event even occurred. We thank our sponsors and encourage you to review the sponsors list by clicking on the tab.  In addition we had the most attendees ever, a more successful silent and Chinese auctions and continued great support from donors who were unable to come to the picnic. Almost all of the expenses were donated by family and friends so all but $1000 generated were donated to the CF clinics to help the patients. We raised $26,000 on that wonderful day. Thanks to all of you who made it all possible.

Wildwood Golf Club Benefit Dinner

On May 9,2014 Wildwood Golf Club sponsored a dinner/jazz night  with all proceeds donated  to Muriel’s Breath of Life.  The club did all of the work led by Ray Appleton social chairman. Chef Dave Stover prepared a wonderful meal with great service by the wait staff. Music was by the ever present Swingtet  8, aka Joe Lagnese’s big band. The membership supported the event by donating all of the auction items, attending the event and generously bidding on the auction. When the evening was complete the club donated over $5000 to Muriel’s Breath of Life.  Through the year Wildwood sponsored three separate events solely for the benefit of non -profit initiatives raising more than $20,000. Thanks to Wildwood for remembering those in need and supporting Muriel’s Breath of Life.

Summary -- Muriel’s Breath of Life Benefit Dinner 2014

Where: Casbah Restaurant - Highland Avenue, Shadyside
Date: Thursday, February 27, 2014
Time: 6:00 PM

Through the tremendous generosity of Casbah and the Big Burrito group Muriel’s Breath of Life was able to have a fabulous dinner at Casbah . The dinner was sold out and all who attended enjoyed a spectacular five course meal with a myriad of flavors and tastes served elegantly by the staff.  We were privileged to have a number of new supporters in addition to many of you who have supported us over the past 4 years. As you may know Casbah charges nothing for the meal so all of the proceeds (except for gratuity) go to the foundation. Because of this we were able to raise $5800. We are so appreciative of what Big Burrito does for the community with this program.

Summary -- Fourth Annual Muriel’s Breath of Life Picnic 2013

The fourth annual picnic moved to a new venue at The Lodge in North Park. On a hot but sunny day over 200 Muriel’s supporters enjoyed great food, music, games and comraderie.  The more expansive facility allowed this wonderful group of family and friends to have a very enjoyable afternoon. We thank all of those who attended and also those who generously donated raffle items, food, drink and money.  Because of all of these generous people we were able to raise approximately $15,000. We were blessed by good weather but we are mostly blessed by the wonderful people that support the memory of our sister Muriel and the cause that she inspires us to work for.

We were honored and appreciative that one of the recipients of the fund Wendy Faust made the trip from Altoona with her family to attend the picnic and give testimony to what the fund can mean to an individual with Cystic Fibrosis. She was kind enough to share some of the physical and financial challenges that cystic fibrosis presents her as she works hard at being a good mom and nurse.  Her words were both moving and inspiring. Muriel would have related quite well with Wendy.

Winners of our 2013 golf raffle

The winners of the golf raffle are Mark Minnaugh-Pikewood National Golf Club, Wayne Zupancic -Pittsburgh Field Club, Greg Bittner -Sewickley Heights Golf Club. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets. We sold 100 tickets and raised $10,000 for Muriel’s Breath of Life.

2012 Casbah Charity Dinner

Muriel’s Breath of Life was chosen as the charity for Casbah Charity Dinner. Each month, Casbah presents a menu inspired by a particular Mediterranean region or season as an opportunity to enjoy a wonderful dinner while benefiting a worthwhile cause. One hundred percent of the proceeds went directly to Muriel’s Breath of Life. Fifty guests enjoyed a 5 course meal and each other’s company. Muriel’s Breath of Life received $5,000 in donations.

We thank the staff and the chef of Casbah for a wonderful meal and service. We sincerely thank Big Burrito for their charitable works to the community. They made this benefit so easy and delicious.

Third Annual Breath of Life BBQ

The third annual Muriel’s Breath of Life picnic, held on Sunday, September 2, 2012, was characteristic of past picnics held to raise money for cystic fibrosis.  People had a fantastic time. Friends, families and guests congregated to the music of Jazz 3 and enjoyed grilled lamb, sausage, chicken and locally grown fruits and vegetables.  It wasn’t a bad deal for the children either as they had their choice of bouncing in the bouncy house, getting soaked in the dunk tank or just playing ball in the football field below.  Family and friends also participated in the silent and Chinese auction.  They placed bids on Penguin, Pitt, Steelers and Pirate tickets, just to name a few of the great prizes that were available at the auction.  It was great fun getting together for a good cause and honoring Muriel at the same time.  All proceeds of the picnic go to the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Care Program at UPMC’s Comprehensive Lung Center.
